The Sony PFM42V1 is an older model and only supports up to 852x480 resolution good enough to watch TV but may not be good enough for DVD if your friend's standard is on the high side! At $24800 that's not cheap though! Your friend may want to check out the Philips outlet stores in Hong Kong and they are running their annual clearance sale (almost two weeks now). There was one 42"lasma left selling for only $13999 (852x480) in Causeway Bay early last week I chose the 37" Plasma with the Pixel plus technology for $16999 the Philips pixel plus technology supports up to 1280x1024 you can easily see the difference when watching DVD! Both models used external TV tuner and I got one from Philips for only $1000 extra with lots of functions and features.

吾該曬!
Stephen as I said I bought it from Philip in Causeway Bay they have another outlet in TST and the large one in Hopewell Centre Wan Chai. Worth to take a look if they have anything left from the annual clearance sale. So far I'm quite please with the unit I tried with my laptop tonight with excellent clarity and high resolution.

Some are 陳列品 and some are not the 陳列品 carries only 6 months Philips waranty with option to extend. Mine was a 陳列品 but looks like it's never been touched and the manager told me that some of the 陳列品 were hardly used for display including the one I picked. One of my friends just bought a brand new Samsung 42" Plasma and had to replaced the unit 3 times because of different problems! Knocked on wood mine has been excellent so far and I can't complain with what I paid for and the technology & quality I'm getting!

I don't like display unit especially TV.
The TV penal had normally we said life time display unit normally is the one always on when display. It means the life time is shorten.
If the price different is not big I still prefer brand new.
