ENGLAND’S stars last night voted to refuse to play against Turkey on Saturday unless Rio Ferdinand is put back in the squad.


All 25 players including captain David Beckham said they were prepared to withdraw their services from the Euro 2004 tie in Istanbul.

The angry aces held a strike ballot after learning Manchester United’s Ferdinand had been dropped for missing a drug test.

But FA bosses say Ferdinand will NOT be reinstated sparking an amazing stand-off.

Desperate talks were going on last night to defuse the row. The squad are due to fly out tomorrow.

England coach Sven Goran Eriksson is furious that his preparations have been disrupted.

A friend said: “Sven believes everybody will need to stand shoulder to shoulder on Saturday — qualification will depend on it.”
