personal matters .... should be a common excuse used by head-hunters. You can ask them to call your boss at his mobile. If they are really friends they will definitely have. If not you just don't have to tackle them.
if they ask for your boss's mobile just tell them that you don't have / not authorised to disclose the information.
Just tell them your boss is a real business man he has a lot of appointments so if they can leave you with more info you can help to pass the details to the boss with highest priority.
