whether the speaker is floor standing will change the bass of the the speaker
however
some guy told me bass is non directional
and thus using floor standing rear speaker is "not required"

however
if your budget is really so great that you can afford buying all 5.1 floor standing spk
try to seek with this in mind
center: try to make it linear with you subwoofer
front: try to make it as perfect as possible however it is not easy
rear: lets forget it

take this example
subwoofer 20-80HZ
center 80-20k
front 80-20k
rear 80-20k

you will need to change your amp's cutoff frequence to 80hz

so
you know that you must look at the data spec of your amp
pls take my denon classical cheap rubbish 160x as example
it is hardcoded to be cutoff at 75 hz
my front spk is 56-20k
my center is 100-20k
my rear is 80-20k
so the front spk can cover full range
while 25hz of human conversation and
5k of rear sound is missing

besides
there are certain subwoofer that can perform the cutoff
HOWEVER you must remember that there are certain modelS of subwoofer that will BURN easily if you take the subwoofer as cutoff filter...
