Can anyone tell me if they have installed PCCW phone line instead of HGC in their unit? If PCCW is used can PCCW re-used the HGC telephone jack in any of the room or they need to install new wall jack? Thanks. Re: Anyone use PCCW instead of HGC telephone service?

We did. If one line is stalled the rest of the phone jackets can be used as well and no jackets need to be reinstalled. BTW if you use HGC internet please do not use the standard wire they gave you. If not whenever you use the HGC internet your phone line will be jamed. Even if you called PCCW CS supoprt they will tell you your line is out of order. We experienced it.
Thanks for the reply. I have been using the HGC internet with my own Cat 5 wire since I moved in early June I am also attaching a wireless router so I can use the Internet anywhere in the flat. I am not sure why the HGC provided wire has anything to do with the problem you are experiencing though. I wonder if anyone using the HGC telephony service and also HGC Intenet service has experienced similar problem?? Re: Anyone use PCCW instead of HGC telephone service?

Can you tell me what is the difference between your own Cat 5 wire and the HGC provided wire and the usual RJ45 "broadband wire" available in market? Can we connect the wireless router to the HGC internet just like the ordinary broadband service provider.
Thanks!
As told by the PCCW's technical guy the "specific" setting of the HGC socket needs a "two-pinned" wire. The one we bought in the street or our last Cat5 wire can't serve the purpose of accessing internet and phone line at the same time.
That means for my case (PCCW's phone lines) if I plug in an ordinary Cat5 wire in my small room to use the HGC internet the other phone line sockets won't function. The guys from Netvigator and PCCW said this problem is very popular in RC. They finally gave us the solution that they made a specially "2 pinned" Cat 5 wire for me to use the HGC internet 4 converters to convert the Lan socket to ordinary phone line socket and two filters to use the Netvigator.
I hope I made myself clear as I'm not as technical as my other half. Please let me know if I made it wrong. My other half will make it straight for me. ops: ops:作者: candidfoto 時間: 2004-7-1 07:43:44
Thanks for the explaination. Even though I don't like to subscribe to HGC telephony service but I guess in this case better go with them so there is no potential conflict in using the same jack for both internet and telephony service if I subscribe to PCCW!
I also just opened one of the HGC jack and the Internet jack indeed does not have all the wires from the Cat5 inserted so the PCCW guy is probably correct if we just insert a normal Cat 5 it will short out the other telephony jack which will then disable the telephony. I guess I will need to use the special rigged CAT 5 wire they provided when the telephone line is installed?!
